CAUTION EXTREMELY LONG POST
Jhett had his first & hopefully LAST visit to the Emergency Room May 5th. I am now finally blogging about it because that entire week was completely stressful plus the pictures we took were on Austin's phone & he has now had time to upload them on the computer for me.It all started Monday May 3rd. Jhett was at my mom's for the day & I was at work. Nothing out of the ordinary, however Jhett did not want to eat anything that day according to my mom & Austin said he had a couple of bites of potatoes for dinner but that was it. About 1:30 AM I heard Jhett through the baby monitor coughing.
**SIDE NOTE- Jhett was moved out of the nursery & into his room Friday April 30th where he slept in a twin size bed all the night through!**
I immediately jumped out bed to make sure he was still on the bed & had not fallen off. When I got in his room there was vomit all over the bed & himself. I rushed to help him out where he continued to vomit all over the place. We went downstairs & had the biggest blowout & puked some more.(All over me, the kitchen, & the family room) He was literally puking every 30 min, wouldn't drink anything & couldn't keep anything down. Needless to say I called out of work that day (Tuesday). I took him to the doctor & she said he was not dehydrated but signs to watch for are not urinating, dry mouth, cracked lips...When we got home I finally was able to get him to take a 3 hour nap where I too caught some Z's. When Jhett woke up the throwing up started again every 30 min. I couldn't tell if he was urinating or not because he had so many diarrhea diapers that were pure liquid.
When we went to bed that night he slept most of the night & I thought everything was getting better. Then 3:30 AM came around when Austin's alarm for work went off & Jhett puked again. Austin called out of his job & told me to go back to bed so that I could go to work. I said ok, but if it was slow I would ask to leave so he could go work at his dads. I got to work & realized it was not slow. Called Austin to check on Jhett & he said he was doing good, had not thrown up anymore, was drinking fluids & keeping them down, so he took him to my moms. I checked on Jhett through out the day & my mom said that he was not throwing up but was definately out of it & very weak. I felt so bad being at work knowing my baby was not feeling well. It's so hard being a working mom. I cried off & on all that day. About the time Austin went to get Jhett from my mom, Jhett puked all over my mom & then 3 more times when they got home. Austin then called me at work about 5:30PM saying Jhett needed to go to the ER. So I left work a little early & met up with them at a gas station. Austin & Jhett got in my car & we headed to the hospital. We debated on what Hospital to take him to. We ended up going to Banner Gateway. We arrived there & were checked in at 6:30PM. We didn't get put into a room until about 7:30PM & a doctor didn't come into our room until about 10:30PM. We were all restless & aggrivated by this point. Jhett would not settle down. He kept telling us "GO" & "Night Night" The most frustrating thing I witnessed while being there is a mexican boy came in way after Jhett with a broken arm & Austin overheard the mom tell the hospital she had no insurance & this boy was discharged & left before a doctor had even come in to see us!! It turns out Jhett had reached dehydration. You could tell, the coloring in his face was gone & he just seemed so out of it. The doctor ordered up x-rays, bloodwork, & IV fluids. We also had to move rooms. Jhett was NOT happy about any of this. First they did x-rays. Since I'm pregnant I can not go in the room. I could hear Jhett screaming "MOMMY!!" all the way down the hall. That broke my heart. Next bloodwork & IV fluids. Jhett had to be strapped down to the table to have this done. He screamed through this whole process.
They got the IV in his left arm & were able to get the blood they needed but Jhett was thrashing all over the place & the IV fell out. So we had to strap him back down & poke his other arm.
It took almost 2 hours to calm him down enough to finally fall asleep. I was then able to position his arm the way it was supposed to be to have the fluids go in him faster.
When the fluids were gone we had to check to see if he had peed. NOPE. So we we waited for 30 min. NOTHING. So the doctor brought in more fluids. Jhett eventually woke up & was NOT happy about still being in the hospital & having an IV still in his arm. So they stopped the fluids & said everything on x-rays & bloodwork looked great, had we waited any longer though it could have been more serious. We sat there for a while waiting for Jhett to pee. NOTHING. By this time it was 2:00 AM. Doctor could tell Austin & I were beat & Jhett had got the amount of fluids he could get. His coloring came back & he looked tons better so they let us leave. By the time we got home Jhett had peed!! YAY!!! Jhett vomited Thursday a couple of times, & Friday a couple of times but was urinating & drinking. Saturday & Sunday he didn't throw up at all. But I was sick. Monday he threw up once but since then NOTHING. Diarrhea has cleared up & he is finally back to himself!!!!
