10:00 PM I call the hospital asking if there was any change since I did not live close & didn't want to drive home just to turn around & drive back. The woman that answered said there were no beds available & they would call. So Austin & I headed home. On the way home I was having those can't breathe contractions but they eventually stopped when we got home. I had the hardest time sleeping, I kept waking up & looking at my phone afraid I may have missed the call.
Wednesday August 11th. Its been 5 hours since I was supposed to come in & in my mind I'm thinking there is no way they are 5 hours behind so I call down to the hospital. A woman named Sue answers. I let her know that I had an appointment the day before to be induced & was wondering if they were still backed up. Sue said "we are delivering babies" So I said "so there are no rooms?" Sue then replied with "what's your name?" I said "Stephanie Udall" Sue then very rudely said "We will call you when we have a bed available!" I was so upset that she first off was so rude & also that I couldn't even get an idea of a time they were thinking I would be able to come down. I wasn't trying to be pushy, but when you have a lot of people involved (my family who is taking care of Jhett & Austin who is calling out of work because they are the type that will not let you leave if they are busy) I kind of needed more answers & Sue would not let me get in 2 words. So ofcourse when I get off the phone I start crying. I called my mom to let her know I would come get Jhett from her & keep him with us until we heard something. We picked up Jhett & took him to Chandler Mall to ride the Train & McDonalds to play on the toys. I was glad we had that time just the 3 of us before the baby comes. Nap time was approaching & still no call so we drove back to my moms to lay down Jhett. Then we sat on the couch. I was thinking in my head, what the heck is going on? Why has the hospital not called? Have I been forgotten? My mom said to call & check again but I was afraid to get someone rude again. So my mom called because she wanted to know. She spoke with Harmony who was extremely nice & helpful. She apologized a ton for Sue who worked the night before & her rudeness. I finally got answers from Harmony, she explained how it works when you have an elective induction & also said that the Hospital has been extremely busy, busier then she has seen it in a long time & that they were about to call me then four emergencies walked in. She then told my mom to have me call her around 4pm to get an update if I hadn't heard from them by then. So Austin & I headed home & figured lets work on stuff around the house while Jhett is napping & we are waiting. So we went home & decided to finally do our touch up painting.
4:00 PM I call the hospital & speak with Harmony. She lets me know they are hoping to have a couple of babies born in the next couple of hours & to call at least two people on their list before her shift ends which is 7pm & I am the first person to call. So that gave me hope. Austin & I decide to shower & go back to my moms so that we are closer to the hospital when they call. We go over & eat dinner.
6:30 PM still no call, Austin says to call the hospital again & I tell him no I have called enough. 7:10 pm I say FORGET IT! They are NOT calling & I am exhausted. So we go home & I go to bed. Austin stays up with Jhett then puts him to bed.
Thursday August 12th 2:00am MY PHONE RINGS! IT'S THE HOSPITAL!!! They tell me they are ready & to come on down. So we quickly pull ourselves together then speed on over to my moms, drop Jhett off, then speed on over to hospital. Austin even ran 3 red lights. Don't worry no one was on the road & we did not want to wait a second longer. We arrived at the hospital 3am. I was put into a room right away & got undressed then hopped into bed. The nurse checked me, dialated to a 3 & 75% effaced. I was not expecting that. The nurse said that is a great place to start. I ended up getting poked three times in my left wrist for an IV. Man that hurt. But things were on their way. They started pitocin & Austin & I fell asleep. My day nurse Anne was super nice. She came in a couple of times to up my dose, said I was having contractions every 2-3 min. I was surprised because I was feeling no change when I was on the pitocin. The doctor came in about 10:30am & broke my water. I was expecting to have contractions come on super strong like they did with Jhett, but again there was no change. Then I started to feel like I had to go poop so I went & sat on the toilet, as I was sitting there the feeling would not go away but at the same time I wasn't pooping either. So I decided to get in the shower & let the hot water hit my back. Austin was so sweet for holding the shower head for me. That felt really good but that feeling was not going away & I was starting to feel nauseous & was breaking into a deep sweat. I then realized that these were contractions & I didn't think I was going to be able to do this delivery without an epideral. So Austin called the nurse & ordered up the epideral. I also got anti-nausea medication put into my IV. It took about 10 min before I was not able to feel the contractions. Such a relief! I then fell asleep again. After a while a nurse (not Anne) came in & woke me up & said she needed to turn me over & check me. The babies heart rate was going down too fast. I was at an 8. So of course I was nervous & Anne came in & they started to set up everything for delivery. As they were watching the monitor there wasn't much change so they turned me back to the other side. I got a contraction where I started to feel alot of pressure & I felt like the baby was falling out. I asked Austin to look to see if he could see a head. Sure enough there was a little showing so they had me start pushing. Doctor showed up & as I would push Tredd would start coming forward but as soon as the contraction stopped he went back in. I pushed for only 15-20 min & Tredd was here. Because I wasn't fully dialated the entire time I could feel the doctor stretching me out, I did tear a little but did not get an episiotomy. I then delivered the placenta, that was an extremely wierd feeling coming out. The nurses started cleaning up Tredd & Dr. McNeal was sewing me up. Over all from start to finish it was a little less then 12 hours.
Welcome Tredd Darin!!!
